We generally depart 8.30 am ex Pietermaritzburg (8.00 am if ex Durban). From Pietermaritzburg we follow the “old” road via Winterskloof and along the Midlands Meander main route, visiting Nelson Mandela’s capture site. Breakfast of your choice will be enjoyed at Rawdons Hotel  where after we travel via Nottingham Rd and Lower Lotheni stopping for coffee at The Sani Pass Hotel before ascending Sani Pass. This pass is one of only a few road links between South Africa and Lesotho and its torturous route provides some spectacular scenery and views of KZN Province. From Sani Pass Hotel we ascend 1300 meters in a matter of a few Kilometres along what can only be described as a wide donkey track. The pass is only traversable in a 4x4 vehicle.

We lunch at The Highest Pub in Africa at the summit of Sani Pass  after which we again descend this precipitous pass, stopping for photographic opportunities or just to take in the vistas.

We  travel back to Pietermaritzburg or Durban via the farming towns of Underberg, Winterton and Howick, stopping at the 365ft high Howick falls on the way home.

NB!! These tours are subject to weather conditions as Sani Pass is impassable during periods of snow (usually August through September) or after heavy Summer Rains.
